The Student Opportunities for Academic Research program supports faculty-mentored research, artistry, and creativity projects for undergraduates at VCSU.
Students interested in pursuing mentored research or artistry should consult with a prospective faculty member on the project idea, then work together on the development of a short proposal that communicates the essence and scope of the intended work, submitting that proposal by the announced November, or April dates.
Working alongside a faculty mentor, being paid $1000, and $250 for expenses is a proven recipe for discovery!
For perspective on what other students have worked on, review the titles and abstracts of projects previously awarded.
Afterwards review the required proposal outline and which includes the proposal criteria.
Proposals will be evaluated using a SOAR-Scoring-Rubric and ranked by members of the SOAR Advisory Group, noting that projects that draw from multiple disciplines with an integrative theme will be scored higher, increasing the likelihood of funding.
Any members of the SOAR Advisory Group are able to assist with answers to any questions.
Please consider participating in the SOAR program at VCSU.
