Application
The SOAR Program hosts competitions twice yearly. To apply, students will develop in a 4-6 page proposal that has a structure consistent with:

  1. Abstracta concise description of the project.
  2. Process/methodsoverview of the methodology, and/or strategy for completion.
  3. Timeline/benchmarksweekly timeline of effort with benchmarks/milestones indicated.*
  4. Budgetdocumentation of the project labor, materials, travel expenses.
  5. Disseminationidentify potential outlets to present, e.g. conference.
  6. Educational objectivesshort prospectus on the project’s alignment w/ educational goals.
  7. Integrative Nature of workdescription of multiple disciplinary knowledge harnessed.
  8. Bibliographywell formatted sources/references.
  9. General Professionalism – high quality proposal documentation and presentation.

All projects will be scored by the  SOAR Advisory Group using the SOAR-Scoring-Rubric-2020.

*Projects which include a discussion on any potential COVID-related logistical changes will be rated higher.

Faculty mentors should work with students on the proposal development allowing students to be the principal author. Please review exemplar proposals from previous students at:  http://soar.vcsu.edu/?page_id=705

Faculty members will recommend their student’s works through the submission of a Faculty Mentor Recommendation Form that includes and evaluation of the student’s work,  and capacity to complete the proposed activities. Some research may require an Institutional Review Board approval.
